Eat Ink

First of a series of posts that have been taking weeks to take the trip from my head to cyberspace..

I used to devour books, but now I find I've slowed down a bit, and only partly because books are more expensive now, and also partly because I have far less free time now. Thanks to National Bookstore's anniversary sale a couple of months back, Books For Less, and very kind friends though, I have some new acquisitions.

On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen
by Harold McGee

I finally have it!! The geek-cook's bible! Mwahahaha! I've been eating the chapters up like a madman.

Classic Conran: Plain, Simple & Satisfying Food
by Terence Conran and Vicki Conran

Got this hardcover copy brand new at NBS for only Php200, and all because of a small tear in the dust jacket!!!

The Man Who Ate Everything
by Jeffrey Steingarten

On loan from Chef JJ. Steingarten is hilarious. I've squirted juice up my nose a couple of times with this one.

The Lore of Spices: Their History, Nature and Uses Around the World
by J. O. Swahn

Very yummy. If you're a spice freak like me you gotta have it! 65% off at Bestsellers. Oh joy!

The Seasoning of a Chef: My Journey from Diner to Ducasse and Beyond
by Doug Psaltis and Michael Psaltis

A sweet gift from Steph :-) To a chef-in-training like myself, the book is both inspiring and terrifying.

Alton Brown's Gear for Your Kitchen
by Alton Brown

Geek factor set to 9!! What can I say, I love the guy. Thanks, Jep, for getting me this. And yes, I'll lend it to you hehehe.

Anthony Bourdain Omnibus:
Kitchen Confidential/A Cook's Tour

by Anthony Bourdain

Thanks to Indira for this one! Claimed it from the post office today (Oct 25) so that's one book from my wish list granted, and not even Christmas yet!! Ripped the packet open in the parking lot, and laughed while reading the introduction. Fun days ahead, if I can just find the time to read.

A small part of my Christmas Wish List (food book category) *hint, hint* hehehe:

Good choice of books! ABrown fan here too! I have his baking book (as a gift) and I get to borrow his other books from the library. I currently loaned Kitchen Confidential but Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking is always checked out! The Inquisitive Cook (Accidental Scientist) is a good read too.

Received a parcel today from my friend Indira in Denmark, so that's one book struck from my wish list :-)

Isn't Alton Brown the coolest? Nerds rule! Hey Harold McGee is a must-own if you're as big a geek as I am. Hmm I gotta check out that other book you mentioned. Bookmarked your blog :-)
